Rehabilitation center in Gainesville, Florida
Physical therapy and rehabilitation are crucial to many patients' recoveries following injuries, illnesses, surgeries or inpatient hospital stays.
At North Florida Regional Medical Center, we have licensed therapists on-site to begin the rehabilitation process while patients are still in the hospital. We also partner with community providers, so our patients have easy access to outpatient services to continue their recoveries.

Inpatient rehabilitation services
At North Florida Regional Medical Center, patients admitted to our hospital have access to short-term physical therapy services.
Our goal for acute care patients is to help them reach a medically stable position where they are strong enough to either return home or participate in an outpatient rehabilitation program.
Our physical therapists examine each patient and develop a plan of care to promote movement, reduce pain, restore function and prevent long-term disability. We not only partner with our patients throughout their rehabilitation journey, but we also involve friends and other support people to achieve positive patient outcomes.
Types of therapy we offer
Each patient in our hospital who receives rehabilitative care has their own set of unique abilities and needs. This is why we offer multiple types of therapy to help patients regain and relearn certain skills and daily tasks. Patients have access to the following therapies:
- Occupational therapy—This type of therapy is dedicated to helping patients relearn tasks of daily living after a disease, medical event or injury. Sometimes, this may involve teaching patients how to accomplish tasks using assistive devices.
- Physical therapy—This type of therapy focuses on regaining proper movement and strength building. It helps to reduce pain, increase range of motion and speed recovery following an injury.
- Speech therapy—Also commonly called speech language pathology, this type of therapy helps patients with speech and language conditions.
Specialized rehabilitation programs
Our hospital offers dedicated care to patients following a stroke, orthopedic surgery, cardiac surgery or heart disease diagnosis. We offer the following types of rehabilitation to serve the individualized needs of our patients.
Following a diagnosis of congestive heart failure (CHF) or after a heart attack, many patients need additional support to regain strength and transition to leading a heart healthy lifestyle.
At The Heart & Vascular Center, we offer a cardiac rehabilitation program that focuses on exercise, education and nutrition. We are here to help you manage your heart disease and provide the recovery care needed following complex heart and vascular surgeries.
As part of our orthopedic care program, we offer rehabilitation following an injury or surgery. Orthopedic rehabilitation is often an essential component to recovery to help bones, tendons, ligaments and muscles heal properly and regain strength.
Cerebrovascular accident (stroke) is the leading cause of adult disability in the U.S., according to the American Stroke Association. Our rehabilitation specialists help patients regain strength, mobility and independence after a stroke. Our stroke rehabilitation team includes licensed physical, occupational and speech therapists.
