NFRMC Earns Quality Top Performer Recognition for 5th Consecutive Year

North Florida Regional Medical Center (NFRMC) announced today that it has been recognized as a 2014 Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in the United States. NFRMC was recognized as part of The Joint Commission's 2015 annual report, "America's Hospitals: Improving Quality and Safety." The hospital is recognized for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance for heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care, stroke and perinatal care. NFRMC is one of only 1,043 hospitals out of more than 3,300 eligible hospitals in the United States to achieve the 2014 Top Performer distinction.

The Top Performer program recognizes hospitals for improving performance on evidence-based interventions that increase the chances of healthy outcomes for patients with certain conditions, including heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care, children's asthma, stroke, venous thromboembolism and perinatal care, as well as for inpatient psychiatric services and immunizations.

This is the fifth year North Florida Regional Medical Center has been recognized as a Top Performer. NFRMC was recognized in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 for its performance on accountability measure data for Heart Attack, Heart Failure, Pneumonia and Surgical Care. In addition to quality recognition again in 2014 for those measure sets, NFRMC adds stroke and perinatal care to its Top Performer recognition for 2014. NFRMC is one of only 147 hospitals in the nation to achieve the Top Performer distinction for the past five consecutive years.

"We understand what matters most to patients at North Florida Regional Medical Center is the quality and safety of the care they receive. That is why we have made it a top priority to improve positive patient outcomes through evidence-based care processes," said Brian T. Cook, President & CEO of NFRMC. "We are proud to be named a Top Performer as it recognizes the knowledge, teamwork and dedication of our entire hospital staff."

"Delivering the right treatment in the right way at the right time is a cornerstone of high-quality health care. I commend the efforts of North Florida Regional Medical Center for their excellent performance on the use of evidence-based interventions," said Mark R. Chassin, MD, FACP, MPP, MPH, president and CEO, The Joint Commission.

To be a 2014 Top Performer, hospitals had to meet three performance criteria based on 2014 accountability measure data, including:

  • Achieving cumulative performance of 95 percent or above across all reported accountability measures;
  • Achieving performance of 95 percent or above on each and every reported accountability measure where there were at least 30 denominator cases; and
  • Having at least one core measure set that had a composite rate of 95 percent or above, and (within that measure set) all applicable individual accountability measures had a performance rate of 95 percent or above.

"Our philosophy is that we will provide quality healthcare to every patient, every shift, every day," Cook says. "We believe that this philosophy is critical and translates into the kind of care our patients can rely on and the level of care that they deserve. We celebrate this recognition and believe it validates our philosophy of consistency for the people who matter the most - our patients."
